Putin’s recent invasion of the sovereign nation of Ukraine violates treaties put in place by his own country. Our nation – our leaders and the voters who elect them – cannot afford to be naive of this reality. At the same time, we also cannot ignore the importance of Russia and Eastern Europe in global affairs that readily impact not only the global economy, but also our domestic economy. We must not deny the relevance Russia has in many corners of the globe that are still unfriendly to American interests. The partisan politics are perhaps most apparent in the ad hoc attacks against former Secretary Hillary Clinton. The truth is that anyone who examines her record will see a clear-eyed approach and strategy. She understands what we are dealing with.
