Putting Fùtbal aside, the reason why I could never be an Argentina fan is due to their racist history. Although it might no longer be the case seemingly, I could never root for a team with a history of racism that is as impressive as their fùtbal. For a lot of Argentina fans, its more than just about the beautiful game--its about the subtle and not so subtle need to show their superiority in terms of class and pigmentation over their Brazilian fan counterparts, the masses. Having said that, I understand that most of the contemporary Argentina fans are not aware of that history. They are passive and blind consumers of the sport. But I advise you all to know your a little bit of history before defending you beloved team. To be fair, the Dutch, French, Germans, and Brits werent innocent bystanders during humanitys dark ages; they too carry a history stained by slavery, imperialism, and racism. However, when we look at the faces that proudly represent their national teams today, we see racial inclusion. We see a willingness to judge black players not by the pigmentation of their skins but by the quality they bring to their respective teams. In sharp contrast, Argentina still remains relatively homogeneous. It is in my opinion, a national team that, whether by design or otherwise, still carries its racist legacy. The schism that exists in Haiti with respect to Argentina and Brazil goes beyond the beautiful game. It puts into evidence our own self hatred and prejudices toward our brothers and sisters. Some of us are sadly still prisoner to the Stockholm syndrome. Bon nou mèt rayim pou post saa...but it carries a hefty dose of truth.
