Putting Mess to Rest~ Ok. I been harping on it the last couple of days and I suppose Ill just leave it here. New followers wont get me, but Im not striving to put on a perfect front. There are some things that just bother me, and one of those things is how were portrayed. I look at some of these shows on cbs that are about nothing and wonder why couldnt it have been a show about five black geniuses? Not out of an entitlement thing, but more like why was it necessary to just keep putting out the same shows with the same look? Why not mix it up? And why are the shows about superior and exceptional people they always look the same? Each and everytime. No variation. Some of the shows are good. Some suck. Some stay on for a decade. Some dont last a season. The point is theyll throw it out there and see if it works. But when it comes to how they portray us there is never any variation. And we cant say there isnt the content because by this time we have an ample supply of skilled and capable black filmmakers and writers ready to tell just those stories......but they never get a chance. Then theyll make a story that seems like the perfect candidate to cast us, and even then cast that same type...those same people in our story. And because Im always asking Why is there never any variation? it makes me very cynical when they release something and tell us This is YOUR story. This is who you are, and this is all you should want to see yourself in. I shaded Oprah and I stand behind that, but many of your defenses were valid. So Im not going there. No matter what I think of Oprahs storytelling she shouldnt be the only perspective anyway. Thats where its unfair of me to blame her.....on the surface. But the real tea is that shes a part of the network that makes sure shes is the only black voice. Its that double play they do, and when i realize how many fall for the double play...it discourages me. But Imma leave it there and move on. While every makes blogs today about blacks being snubbed in the Oscar nominations.
