Putting kids to bed before Christmas SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – With Christmas just two days away, kids of all ages are likely to experience difficulty sleeping. Busy schedules, sleeping at grandma’s house, and trying to stay awake to hear Santa and his reindeer all contribute to sleep difficulties during the holiday season. Dr. Anthony Jackson, one of Baystate’s pediatric sleep specialists has some tips to help kids get to sleep over the holidays: “Relax before they go to sleep by taking a warm bath or shower, possibly drink some milk before they go to bed,” he explained. “Also its useful to set a time when they’re going to get up the next morning to open presents.” Other tips to help your kids sleep include: giving them one sleep-related present on Christmas Eve, such as a stuffed animal or pajamas; turn off distracting electronic devices before bed; and if all else fails, try reminding your child that Santa doesn’t come unless they are asleep.
