Pyometra Pyometra is a secondary infection of the uterus caused by hormonal changes in your unspayed pet. It is a life-threatening condition and should be treated with surgery. A pyometra surgery is similar to a spay but more complicated and can be quite costly. This is why veterinarians will always recommend spaying your pet at an early enough age to prevent this infection from developing. If you breed your dog but they have not been pregnant, they are at high risk. Signs and symptoms to look for with pyometra are: -anorexia -lethargy/depression -pus or abnormal discharge from the vagina -vomiting -diarrhea -distended abdomen If you notice these symptoms and your pet is intact, call us right away!
