Q. 48. Some times when I do no warm-up dives, I have the DR very soon sometimes not, with the same preparation, do you know why? Yes,its the type of thoughts you have:are you anticipating a truly maximum effort or not. The DR is potentiated by mental distress and motivation. That is why performance should be greatest when going for a personal best, it is a stressful condition, but one must make sure not to engage in heavier than usual breathing. In fact on big dives a good sign is the chest thumping one feels.But one cant fool ones self into saying I am stressed, one must believe it, feel it without thinking about it. Reflection and self-analysis will sabotage the very result which is sought. Best not to think about and just have motivation.
