Q: Are there exercises that I should not do, if I have a bad back? Me: Exercise is great and not every exercise is good for you. For example, sit ups are horrible for your spine. Why? In all lifts I am sure you have heard, keep your back straight - not rounded! Yet, while doing situps you have a rounded back for many reps that are done usually very quickly. The rounding of the back and the full flexion and then extension puts your discs in jeopardy. If you feel fine doing this exercise currently, I say to you... Its only a matter of time before you blow a disc.
