Q & As about the NEW AZLE HORNET HOOPS program! Great organizations come with great communciation. Please let us know if you have any questions. 1) What is the cost per player? A: Cost is $100 and there are no GATE fees to come watch them play... a PLUS for families to come support the team!!! EACH PLAYER RECEIVES: a reversible green and white jersey, matching shorts, and a warm up long sleeve shirt. 2) Is there a way to lower my child/childs registration? A: Yes, you can sell t-shirts and hoodies to family and friends, weve posted on our website. Every shirt you sell $3 goes towards your registration cost. $$ collected and order must be turned in with registration to get discount. ** ( HORNET HOOPS SHIRTS) ** ON SALE NOW** 3) When is our 1st game? A: Games begin Saturday Dec. 6th, Games will follow on these dates. 13th, Jan 10th, 17th, 24th, 31st, Feb 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th... Weather permitting we will get first 6 games scheduled then BYA will do finals game schedules. 2) When do practices start? A: We will have a least one week of practice before the 1st game, ( we would like to have 2) We are working with the Azle athletic director (Scott Anderson) -- football could cause some trouble as Super Bowl is nov 22nd. 3) Where will we practice? A: We will have practice 2 days a week, you might have to share a gym 1 day a week depending on gym availability at Azle schools. 4)What league are we playing in and is there a draft? A: We will play in the BYA Association. All Azle teams are playing in the Rec league this season, you can bring your own team with a minimum of 8 players, max of 10 players. ( We recommend min 8 players, or a member can be added if signed up without a team ) This league has over 600 players prior to our enrollment. If a child signs up without a team they will be put on a team after observation skills day. --- TBA (All players are requested to attend even if signed up with a team) 5) What cities do we play? A: We will play Burleson, Crowley, Joshua and Azle. These are the cities our games will occur in. We will have at least one game a month in AZLE. Possibilties of 2 games a month in Azle. 6)Are the teams co-ed and are they by grade? A: Teams are boy or girl in each age group. IF there are not enough girl players they will be put on a co-ed azle team but will play against boys. Teams are formed as K-1, 2, 3, 4,5 ,6 7) Can my player play up an grade? A: Players can play up a grade not down. 8: Will there be mandatory fundraising? A:*** NO.. We are using sponsors and will have fun events for fundraising as a whole organization. You can choose to invite family and friends if youd like to participate. *** 9:) Will coaches get background checked and trained? A: Each coach will be background checked through BYA at a small cost to the coach ( no more than $20) They will take a test and when completed receive a badge from the BYA organization. All coaches will need in order to be on the bench at a game. Only 2 coaches per bench at a time. ****A coaches clinic will occur with the AZLE Athletic program.**** TBA 10) I heard cheer will be available? A: Cheer sign ups for new cheerleaders went on through Oct 6th. Contact cheer with questions! THOSE that have uniforms from football 2014 can continue to sign up! The uniforms will be good through football season 2015 and basketball 2016. ----------- ABOUT THE GAME---------- 1) What is the height of the goals? A: For kids K-1 & 2 goal is 8.5ft , and grades 3,4,5,6 10ft as for now waiting for BYA to confirm will know by 10/10 2) What are the length of the quarters? A: As of now it is listed as 8 minutes running clock for all grades, but they are voting on changing it to 9 minutes, for grades 3rd and . We will know for sure next Friday Oct 10th. It is a running clock except the last 2 minutes of the 4th quarter, then stops every whistle. 3) What are the rules for pressing? K-1 and 2 are not allowed to press at anytime. Grades 3 and up are allowed to press anytime, unless they are ahead by 10 points or more points 4) What are the defense rules? A: Azle rules will be K-1 & 2 will play man to man and no trapping, Grades 3 and up can play any defense zone, press, man to man, etc. working on making this in all cities at a meeting. 5) What are the offense rules and what size balls are used? A: Lane violations are 5 seconds for K-4, and 3 seconds for 5th and 6th grade. All players must play 2 full start to finish quarters. Ball sizes are being verified at BYA meeting Oct 10th. 6) Fouls? A: You can foul out after 5 fouls. Once you receive 7 team fouls you will shoot 1 and 1. 7) Overtime? A: There will be a 2 minute overtime with a running clock. Each team will only get 1 timeout to use during the overtime period. If still tied after 2 minutes sudden death will occur and the 1st basket wins, no additional timeouts will be given. 8:) Will there be a tournament? A) If a city decides to host a Tri County Tournament it would occur the weekend of March 7th. We would pic players to form an ALL STAR team for grades 4, 5, 6th if there are more than 2 teams in that age group. Team pays the entrance fee. 9) Do our players get trophies or metals? A) You only get a trophy if you are the top team in your grade within the BYA organization. You may earn a trophy also if your team attends the TRI - COUNTY Tournament. *** A GYM REP WILL BE AT BOTH GYMS WHEN GAMES ARE IN AZLE AT ALL TIMES TO KEEP GAMES RUNNING SMOOTHLY AND TAKE CARE OF ANY CONCERNS ****
