Q. Assalamualaikum Ya Rabbi. Does Masjid Al-aqsha when visited prophet pbuh in night journey is jerusalem temple ? A. Wa aleikum salaam wa rahmatullah. The Prophet (pbuh) traveled in the night journey to Jerusalem to the place of Solomons Temple, but it had been destroyed by the Romans fifteen hundred years before. At that time the Temple Mount was in ruins, as shown by the Madaba map. The Prophets (pbuh) night journey was at the same time when the Jewish legion had been slaughtered outside the eastern gate of Jerusalem. When the Prophet (pbuh) returned, he preached the message of the Quran to Jinn near Taif who accepted his message. These Jinn were said to be of the Jewish faith. Perhaps there was a connection with the Jewish legion. In 614 CE, the Jewish legion had helped the Persians conquer the Holy Land as they were on their way to conquer Egypt. A Christian mob revolted and there were riots in Jeruslem, Persian King Khosrau demanded all Jews to immediately leave the city of Jerusalem, so they encamped outside the eastern gate. They remained their for five years. In 619CE, as a gesture from Persian King Khosrau to Byzantine Emperor Heraclius, they were executed and their bodies buried in a mass grave just outside the gate. It was at that time, or shortly afterward, the gate was sealed shut.
