Q..? Is it allowed to recite the following dua of iftar (breaking fast) “Allahumma lakasumtu wabika aamantu wa’alaika tawakkaltu wa’ala rizquika aftartu”? Some people say it is bidah. Bismihita’la, Al jawabu biawnil wahhab, To recite the dua which is mentioned inj the question, with the above words, is bidah. Though it is commonly recited at the time of iftar (breaking fast), the dua of iftar (breaking fast) which is stated in the hadith is with the following words, “Allahumma lakasumtu wa ala rizquika aftartu”. One should recite the above dua because it is sunnah, not bidah. In this regard, Hazrat Mullah Ali Qari writes in his well-known book named “Mirqaat” v.2 p.515 “Wa amma mashtahara alal alsinati allahumma laka sumtu wa bika aamantu wa ala rizquika aftartu faziyadatu wa bika amantu la asla laha wa inkana ma’naha sahihan wa kaza ziyadatu wa alaika tawakaltu”. Means, the dua “Allahumma laka sumtu wa bika amantu wa ala rizquika aftartu” circulated in the tounges of people has no originality with the extra words “bika amantu wa alaika tawakkaltu”, though, meaning wise, it is correct. Thus, one should recite the dua which is sunnah without adding other words. Wallahualam bissawaab, sannusana barvatia
