Q. Is it permissible to refer to one’s Sheikh as the beloved of Allah? (Question published as received) A. There are many actions mentioned in the Qur’an and Hadith that qualify a person to become the beloved of Allah, for example, following the Sunnah, making sincere Taubah etc. Thus, there is no harm in referring to one’s sheikh or Ustaz as the beloved of Allah with the assumption that the Sheikh is the beloved of Allah due to adherence to the Sunnah etc. However, one should bear in mind that besides the Ambiyaa (Alaihimussalaam) and the Sahabah (Radiyallahu Anhum), only Allah knows who His beloved is. Besides the Ambiyaa (Alaihimussalaam) and Sahabah (Radiyallahu Anhum), no one’s piety or closeness to Allah is guaranteed. Hence, a person should refrain from making claims that his or a certain sheikh is certainly the beloved of Allah etc. And Allah Knows Best
