Q. SGT. FLEX, WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON EATING BEFORE WORKING-OUT? A. I do recommend a pre-workout meal, because you need the required energy to use during your workout. Keep in mind also, that as you are working out, you are breaking down muscle tissue and burning calories and even perhaps burning fat. Therefore again, you need something in your system in advance to be expenditure, thus allowing your body to avoid going into a negative sparrow. Having said this, here are a few recommendations; oatmeal and chicken breast, sweet potato, whole grain toast and peanut butter, fresh fruit, Greek yogurt, boiled egg whites and oatmeal, whole grain cereal and milk, smoothie or a simple and convenient protein shake to name a few. I personally use organic milk. The bottom line is you need to have some carbohydrates, protein and even a small amount of fat prior to working out.
