Q: What is the difference between a sheriff and a police - TopicsExpress

Q: What is the difference between a sheriff and a police officer? A: A Sherriff is County Law enforcement, Police Officer is Town Law enforcement and a State Trooper is, naturally, State Law enforcement. The difference is jurisdiction, the area that they have the authority to enforce law. Permission must be obtained to cross over town lines for police, county lines for sheriffs and state lines for state police, but permission is always granted during a chase, they all like to get a piece of the action, makes the news when it involves many and different agencies!
