Q ?..What is the ruling of huqooq and meaning of huqooq in Islam? Please provide some examples. Bismihi Ta’ala, Al jawabu biawnil wahhab, Huqooq means rights and responsibilities. Islam is such a true, unrivalled, unique religion that it has described in detail the huqooq of parents towards children, children towards parents, huqooq of brothers and sisters, huqooq of husband and wife, of relatives, kith and kin, huqooq of neighbors, etc. Let me quote some ahadith regarding some huqooq, as far as the rights of parents are concerned, there are plenty of ahadith regarding this. One of the most moralized is as follows, “An abi umama anna rajulan qala ya rasoolallah! mahaqqul walidaini ala waladihima qala huma jannatuka wa naaruk.” (Ibne Maajah) Means, Hazrat Umama reported that a certain person asked, ‘O, messenger of Allah! What are the rights of the parents over their children?’ Rasoolullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam replied, “They are your paradise and your hell.” The sense of the quoted hadith is that those who due to humble service and respect became able to gain the pleasure of their parents, they will go to paradise. However, those who earn their anger and their dissatisfaction through their disobedience towards their parents, then, such people shall enter hell. In this way, there is another hadith mentioned in (Muslim Shareef), “An abi horairah qala qala Rasoolullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam raghima anfuhu, raghima anfuhu, raghima anfuhu, queela man ya rasoolallah? Qala man adraka walidaih indal kibari ahaduhuma au kilahuma summa lam yadkhulil jannah.” Means, Hazrat Abu Huraira reported that the messenger of Allah said, “May he be humiliated, may he be humiliated.” They asked “Who, O messenger of Allah?” He said, “The one who having one or both his parents in old age does not enter paradise.” Like the rights of parents, Islam has described the rights of children in detail, let me quote some hadith regarding this, “An jaabiribni samora qala qala Rasoolullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam la ain yuaddibal rajulu waladahu khairullahu min an yatasaddaqu bisa’ (Tirmizhi) Means, Hazrat Jabir bin Samora reported that the messenger of Allah said, “It is better to teach good manners (adab) to his son than to give a sa’a of charity.” In the hadith of Mishkaat, Hazrat Ayyubi bin Musa reported from his father, “Anna Rasulallah sallallahu alahi wasallam qala ma nahala walidun waladahu min nahlin afdala min adabin hasanin.” Means, Rasulullah sallallahu wasallam said, “A father gives his son nothing better than good manners.” In this way, about the daughters and sisters Hazrat Ibne Abbas reported, “Qala Rasoolullah sallallahu wasallam man aa’la salasa binatin au mislahunna minal akhawati faddabuhunna au rahimahunna hatta yughniyahunnallahu aujabballahu lahul jannata faqala rajulunn awisnataini qala awisnataini hatta lauqalu au wahidatan laqala wahidatan” (Mishqaat) Means, the messenger of Allah Sallallahu Wasallam said, “and whoever brings up three daughter or a like number of sisters training them well and showing kindness to them till Allah enriches them (i.e. till they reach the age of puberty), Allah will guarantee paradise for him. A man asked, “O, messenger of Allah! Does this apply to two also?” He said, “Even to two” If they had asked whether to one also, the messenger of Allah would have said, “Even to one”. Similarly, regarding the rights of one’s brother, Hazrat Saeed bin Aas reported, “Qala Rasulullah Sallallahu Wasallam haqqul kabeeril ikhwati a’la saghirihim haqqal walidi ala waladihi (Bahiqi). Means, the messenger of Allah said, “The right of the oldest brother upon the youngest is like the right of the father upon his son. Hazrat Ibne Abbas reported, Qala Rasulullah Sallallahu Wasallam laisa minna mallam yarham saghirana walam yuaqquir kabirana wa yamuru bilmaaroofi wayanha anil munkir. (Tirmizi) Means, the messenger of Allah sallallahu wasllam said, “The one who does not show mercy to the young ones and does not respect the elders, who does not enjoin what is good and forbid what is evil is not from among us. About the orphan, it is mentioned in the hadith of Sharhus Sunnah, “Qala Rasulullah Sallallahu Wasallam man aawa yatiman ila twaamihi washarabihi aujaballahu lahul jannah.” Means, the messenger of Allah sallallahu wasallam said, “Whoever provides food and drinks for an orphan, Allah will guarantee paradise for him, unless he commits an unpardonable sin.” In this way, Hazrat Anas reported the hadith regarding the neighbor. Rasulullah Sallallahu Wasallam said, “He from whos evil conduct his neighbor is not safe will not enter paradise.” In another hadith, Rasullulah sallallahu wasallam said, “Laisal muminu billazi yashbau’ wajaruhu jaaiunn ila jambihi.” (Mishkaat) The messenger of Allahs sallallhu alaihi wasallam said, “He is not a true believer, one who eats till he fills his stomach while his neighbor remains hungry.
