Q) When is EID? When is the correct date of Eid in Aus? monday or tuesday, I c many mosques having different days of Eid board of imams have already declared monday, some wait for local sighting within Australia, some for indonesia and some Saudi Arabia?? Reply) For Eid to be declared MOON MUST BE SIGHTED: Pre-announcements are incorrect and must be avoided. “The Prophet (Peace be upon him) said: Observe fast on SIGHTING the new moon and break fast on SIGHTING the new moon, but if the sky is cloudy for you then complete the number to 30”. (Book 31, Number 124). May Allah give us the ability to obey the Commands of Allah (swt) and His Messenger (saws) in all matters and affairs of Life. Note: Valid opinions of Moon sighting: 1) Global Sighting 2) Regional sighting (based on particular region/country or local city) Here in Australia, majority of the Scholars of AhlusSunnah Wal Jamaah (including ASWJ, IISNA, AMSSA, IDCA & many more) follow Regional (AUSTRALASIA) Moon sighting. Based on the above if the moon is sighted on Sunday night (29th Ramadan) anywhere in and around Australia (including New Zealand, Indonesia etc) Eid will be on Monday. If moon is not sighted anywhere in and around Australia on Sunday night then one must observe fasting on Monday and celebrate Eid on Tuesday. One must refrain from being too harsh on others taking other (valid or invalid) opinions of moon sighting, rather with Hikmah advise and invite one and all to follow the Path of the Sunnah.
