Q: Why does it seem like its so much harder for the church to have compassion on victims of spiritual and emotional abuse than it is for us to have compassion on victims of physical abuse? Why is it so often the case that when the physically abused tell their stories they are seen as courageous victims, but when the spiritually and emotionally abused tell their stories they are seen as bitter slanderers? Is it because we regard spiritual and emotional abuse as somehow being less real or less of a problem than physical abuse? Or is it because the perpetrators of that kind of abuse are more often leaders within the church, and weve created a culture that insulates the abusers of authority against the claims of the abused?
