Q: You spend some time looking at how Middle East investors, or the people with the capacity to invest, aren’t investing on a large scale. Could you speak to that a little bit more? A: Nobody likes failure, but I think success breeds success. One of the greatest entrepreneurs I met over there is Sami Toucan, the founder of Jabbar Internet Group. He became highly successful in the sale of Maktoob to Yahoo and he immediately persuaded one of his investors, Tiger Global, to help build Jabbar, which is now funding really scaleable startups. With more successes, you’ll see more entrepreneurs funding their own companies and more wealth going back into companies. Certainly there are lots of people funding angel rounds; there’s always been private equity. Now I think there’s a huge need for the Series A round – in the States it’d be $3-5 million; for them it’s $1-2 million.
