Q (on Quora): Which place have you been to, that was so beautiful, that just being there made you happy, enthralled by its beauty? A: Many come to mind: a bowl of chowder at Tadichs in San Francisco; the stars overhead in Chinle, Arizona; the drive in a convertible on the Natchez Trace Parkway; champagne at the Temple of Dendur in the Metropolitan Museum of Art; the lawns at Cambridge University; the college girls on Las Ramblas in Barcelona; the gardens of the Alcazar in Seville; the Alhambra in Granada; post-opera dinner at Bofinger in Paris; waiting in line for a pastry on the Rue Mouffetard; after dark in the Jemma el-Fnaa in Marrakech; noon in the Ummayadd mosque of Damascus; a ferry ride on the Bosphoros in Istanbul; but, always, on a soft sunlit summer day I remember Lake Como. And I smile.
