QACs, or quaternary ammonium compounds, are commonly found in household disinfectants and were proven, in a recent study, to affect the reproductive systems of mice. The results of this study demonstrate that the disinfectants that are supposed to protect laboratory animals from infection might actually be altering their biological functions. There is evidence that QACs can cause breathing problems for humans, however there is no information on whether chronic exposure could affect fertility.
