QCPD nabs 74 year-old man in extort try; manhunt for two cohorts launched Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Director Police Senior Superintendent Joel D Pagdilao announced the arrest of a seventy year old man who, together with two companions, tried to extort money from a real estate broker in Quezon City last Wednesday. PSSupt Pagdilao identified the arrested seventy year-old suspect as Dionisio De Guzman, married, consultant engineer, native of San Pablo City, Laguna and resident of Sebastian Street, San Juan, Balagtas, Bulacan. His two companions who are now subject of manhunt were identified as Arman Cruz and Delfin Soler. Investigation showed that on November 26, 2014, the victim identified as Jane Solitario- Caras, 52 y/o, native of Bauang, La Union personally appeared to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU) and reported about the extortion attempt of the suspects. Solitario told police investigators that last November 23, 2014, she went to her house located at No. 31 Harrizon St., Don Antonio, Royal Estate, Quezon City apparently to start its renovation. However, she was surprised to see the suspects illegally occupying the house. When Solitario asked the suspects of their presence in her house, De Guzman had shouted in the vernacular and demanded from Solitario P400,000.00 for them to leave her house and to avoid further trouble. The suspects also threatened to kill her brother if she would report to the police. Solitario agreed with the suspects to produce the said amount and reported the incident to the CIDU. A team of operatives conducted an entrapment operation against the suspects using P2,000.00 amount of genuine money that was put with the fake boodle money. De Guzman set the meeting place with the victim in front of Engine 46 Restaurant, Don Antonio Avenue, Corner Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City. At around 3:00 p.m., upon De Guzman’s receipt of the entrapment money, he was arrested by the operatives. His two companions were not with him during the entrapment operation. A case of robbery extortion was filed against De Guzman before the Office Assistant City Prosecutor Reuben Ritzuko Veradio who established probable cause for his arrest and recommended P100,000.00 bail for his temporary liberty. The cases against his cohorts who are both at-large were ordered for further investigation. PSSupt Pagdilao commended the operatives for the successful police operation which forms part of the QCPD’s crime reduction program as ordered by no less the Secretary of the Interior and Local Government Mar Roxas and Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista. This further manifests our support of the C.O.D.E-P and Beyond program of PNP Chief PDG Alan La Madrid Purisima, he added. ### gtg JOEL D PAGDILAO Police Senior Superintendent
