QIANLONG 1736 - 1795 Chinese Armorial Porcelain A Very Large Chinese Export Porcelain Blue and White Armorial Dish c.1790 with the Arms of Admiral Sir Edward Hughes (1720-1794). Painted with his Arms as Granted to Him as Admiral and Commander-in-Chief of the East Indies (1783-1793). Two Foot Soldiers of the East India Company Hold Pennants and a Shield Encircled by the Ribbon of the Order of the Bath, the Admiral`s Motto Forward . There is an Inner Recessed Step that Would have Supported a Draining Dish. Sir Edward (1720-1794), Admiral of the Blue Squadron had a long and distinguished career. He joined the Navy in 1735 and his last position was as Commander-in-Chief of the East Indies 1783-1793.He led numerous campaigns in Indian waters, notably against his archival, the French Admiral de Suffren. He accumulated a lot of wealth over during his career, much of it he gave to charity later in his life.
