QUESTION 1. Will US Courts uphold Davis’ lawsuit? 2. If they do, does this end the Guam Decolonization Registry which in essence ends the indigenous only vote? 3. Can Guam sue the US government for failure to recognize the indigenous only vote? 4. Are there precedents for such a case? 5. Does it matter whether the indigenous voters are the only ones who decide Guam’s political destiny? 6. After all, anything is better than status quo. Whether it’s indigenous only or not, the status will change. 7. What is the real nature of the concern over who should vote? a. Righting an historical wrong; Chamorro’s were never given a choice about their political destiny. The need for validation regarding something so critical to their history and conscience. b. Concern over the status that may be chosen. Are we thinking that Chamorro’s will more likely choose Free Assoc. or Independence and non-Chamorro’s will more likely choose statehood. 8. Must have serious and thorough education campaign to dispel myths, hate and unreason. 9. Chamorro’s must seriously consider the consequences of and the finality of statehood. The dream of ever being a sovereign republic on the international stage will be once and for all irreversible. The opportunity will never be given again. The questions they should ask if they want statehood are: a. How important is my identity as a Chamorro? b. How important is my language and culture? c. What potential wealth and opportunity will we as people stand to lose should we give up the once in a lifetime opportunity to be a sovereign republic? d. What potential prestige and opportunities will we stand to lose should we give up our chance to stand as equals on the international stage? 10. Chamorro’s also must seriously consider the finality of choosing Free Association or Independence and the question of surrendering their cherished American citizenship and their passports. They need to ask: a. How important is my US citizenship? b. What will I really lose if I give up my US citizenship? c. How safe will we be as a new republic? d. What could be the economic consequences if Guam is no longer under the US? 11. When considering the question of US citizenship, pragmatism should not be the only guiding principal.
