QUIET THEN STORMY NL WEATHER Quiet NL Weather for Thursday across the Province, lots of Sunshine in Labrador and a nice taste of Sunshine across the Island with some flurries moving into the South late, day ahead of a Snow maker for Thursday night & Friday. More details on that below... Im still tracking a system on the way for the Island, which will spread Snow into Newfoundland, Thursday night and continue through the day on Friday. The track of the Low is still a little up in the air, however it appears the centre of the system will pass near or over the Avalon Peninsula on Friday. That track will mean a switch from Snow to showers and drizzle through early/mid Friday morning as temps rise just above zero on the Avalon. That switch over should help to keep amounts anywhere in the 8-15 cm range for the Avalon. It looks like a transition back to some Snow and onshore flurries through Friday afternoon evening on the Avalon. As winds pick up. West of the track is where well likely see the heaviest amounts with a solid 15-20 and even up to 25 cm for the Burin, Clarenville & Bonavista, Gander and the Bay of Exploits. Again, forecast models are still trying to nail down the track of this one and just how far reaching those outer bands of Snow will reach, however it appears Snowfall amounts will drop off quickly towards the West Coast. My latest Snowfall map (as of Wednesday Evening) has been attached. I will likely be updating it again on Thursday. Check back for updates. Winds: Strong Easterlies ahead of the Low in the 40-70+ km/h range ahead of the system, will transition to even stronger Northwest winds with gusts 60-80 km/h, as the Low departs on Friday afternoon & evening, in the East and along the Northeast Coast. More updates on Thursday. SUNDAY STORM Just a quick note on the Storm brewing for the Island and Eastern Labrador on Sunday. This one is still a long way out, however looks set to be a strong one. The Storm looks likely to bring some really strong winds to the Island, even for Newfoundland and Labrador standards. Again, its still a few days out, however based on the current projected strength much of Newfoundland could be looking at winds gusts of 100+ km/h. Stay tuned. This one looks like a mostly Rain event for the Island with a big warm up and temperatures rising into the mid-high single digits on Sunday. Meanwhile in Central & the North Coast of Labrador this looks like a mostly Snow & Wind event. Possibly a mix of Snow & Rain in the Southeast. Stay tuned for more details on this one over the next few days! Ryan #nlwx
