QUODDY VILLAGE plays an import role in Eastport’s history. The US Army Corps of Engineer’s settled here in 1935 for the Quoddy Dam Tidal Project, they built Quoddy Village to house 5,000 workers and their families. You can find the working model of the planned Passamaquoddy Tidal Dam at the Border Historical Society, Downtown Eastport on Water Street. In the 1938-1943 the National Youth Administration used Quoddy Village to train 800 youth in vocation trades. In 1943, the US Navy took possession during WWII and used it for a navy see bee base named Camp Lee-Stephenson. A monument is located on route 190 at the Tex Shield mill.
