Qazi Yasir’s health deteriorates in custody: Anantnag: Chairman Umat-e-Islami and Mirwaiz South Kashmir, Qazi Ahmad Yasir, was Friday referred to Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) after his health deteriorated in custody. Yasir has been under arrest for the last two weeks. The news of his ill health triggered instantaneous protests and clashes in this South Kashmir town. Reports said Yasir had a fall inside the premises of Sadder Police Station,Anantnag where he is detained. “He also complained of pain on left side of his chest after which he was shifted to District Hospital Anantnag for treatment,” reports said. Family members of Yasir said that doctors at the hospital,referred him to SKIMS in Srinagar for specialized treatment. “We have been told that the left side of his body was not working and doctors feared that he has suffered a stroke,” said a family member. He said the police did not allow any of the family members to meet him, while he was being rushed to Srinagar. The doctors at the District Hospital Anantnag said Yasir suffered a mild stroke, “We have referred him to Srinagar as a precautionary measure,” said a doctor at the hospital. As soon as the word about Yasir’s ill health spread in the town, his supporters including women, came out of their houses and staged pro-freedom and anti-police protests in Lal Chowk area of the town. The protesters were demanding immediate release of Yasir. The police personnel used force to quell the protesters. “The policemen resorted to baton charge and fired tear gas shells to disperse the protesters who in turn pelted stones on the police,” witnesses said. The clashes were on till late in the evening with reports of injuries to few people. Meanwhile, more than a dozen members of the religious wing of Ummat-e-Islami (UeI), courted arrest at Police Station Anantnag, demanding immediate release of their chairman and Mirwaiz South Kashmir, Qazi Ahmad Yasir. The members of UeI and the supporters of the Yasir assembled inside the compound of Hanfia Jamia Masjid, Islamabad after the Friday prayers amid pro-freedom slogans and tried to march towards Lal Chowk. However, large posse of police and paramilitary CRPF personnel deployed outside foiled their attempt. Earlier, addressing the people at Jamia Masjid, Moulana Sarjan Ahmad Barakati, head of the religious wing of UeI accused the state of handing over administrative affairs to the police. “But they (police) need to be remembered that they are there to serve people and not harass them,” said Barkati. He demanded that Mirwaiz South Kashmir be immediately released from the unlawful confinement. The members of religious wing of UeI who courted arrest include; Moulana Sarjan Ahmed Barakati, Moulana Buland Iqbal, Moulana Shah Aijaz Hashmi, Moulana Nissar Ahmed Nayeemi, Moulana Abdul Rashid Qadri, Moulana Javid Ahmed Saqafi, Moulana Mudasir Ahmed Bhat, Moulana Mudasir Ahmed Azmi, Moulana Mehraj-ul-Haq Hashmi, Moulana Mohammed Shafi Misbahi, Moulana Mir Aijaz and Moulana Mansoor Hashmi.......
