Quai dOrsay - French official statements (Paris, october 14th 2014) Libya - Meeting between Mr. Laurent Fabius and his Libyan counterpart (Paris, October 14, 2014) Mr. Laurent Fabius, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development, met this morning with his Libyan counterpart, Mr. Mohammed al-Dairi. Mr. Laurent Fabius expressed his support for Mr. al-Thinni’s government and the Council of Representatives appointed following the parliamentary elections on June 25. The ministers shared the same concern with respect to the porous nature of Libya’s borders and the development of terrorism and trafficking, notably in the south of the country. They reaffirmed their attachment to a political settlement, within the framework of an inclusive political dialogue and with due respect for human rights and democracy. Mr. Laurent Fabius and Mr. al-Dairi paid tribute to the mediation efforts of Mr. Bernardino Leon, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General. They called for the implementation of the confidence-building measures adopted at the meeting in Ghadames on September 29, and then confirmed at the meeting in Tripoli on October 11. United Arab Emirates - Meeting between Mr. Laurent Fabius and his UAE counterpart (Paris, October 13, 2014) Mr. Laurent Fabius, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development, received his UAE counterpart, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, on October 13. The ministers took stock of recent developments of regional importance, starting with the coalition’s action against Daesh. France and the United Arab Emirates are bound by a strategic partnership and engage in very close dialogue on all international issues. Germany - Visit by Mr. Laurent Fabius (Berlin, October 15, 2014) Mr. Laurent Fabius, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development, will visit Berlin tomorrow. Mr. Laurent Fabius will be the first French foreign affairs minister to participate in the German Council of Ministers, as his counterpart did in Paris in May. This exceptional meeting reflects the dynamism of French-German relations. Mr. Laurent Fabius will discuss key international issues: the fight against Daesh, Mali, Nigeria, the Central African Republic and the fight against the Ebola epidemic. Mr. Fabius and Mr. Steinmeier will then go to the Bundestag for a joint hearing before the Foreign Affairs Committee. Following their joint hearing in Paris on October 2, this was also a first between our two countries. This meeting will allow the ministers to discuss the main international crises and the joint actions to address them. Foreign trade – Informal meeting of European ministers (Rome, October 14 to 15, 2014) Mr. Matthias Fekl, Minister of State for Foreign Trade, the Promotion of Tourism and French Nationals Abroad, will participate today and tomorrow in the informal meeting of European foreign trade ministers. On this occasion, there will be a working meeting between the ministers and Mr. Michael Froman, U.S. Trade Representative, during which Mr. Fekl will address transparency issues. At France’s request, the EU authorized the publication of the negotiating mandate for the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership. Tourism – Euro Disney Last week, Euro Disney announced a recapitalization plan, supported by its parent company, “The Walt Disney Company,” which will provide the company with more than a billion euros. This decision confirms the investment that it has been making in France for more than 20 years. Mr. Laurent Fabius, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development, welcomes this decision which will provide Euro Disney with new resources to boost tourism and jobs in France, as well as the attractiveness of our country. Since it opened, Euro Disney has attracted 275 million visitors (half of them from abroad), generated almost 7% of France’s tourism revenue and created 55,000 jobs. Euro Disney is now the top European tourist destination. The plan that has been announced can only reinforce its success so far.
