Qualified Muslim astronomers and reliable visibility forecasts indicate that on Wednesday, August 7th, the only regions of the globe that will have a decent likelihood of a naked-eye (unaided) sighting of the new moon are in South America and the South Pacific. If the moon is sighted on Aug. 7th, Eid al-Fitr would occur on Thursday, Aug. 8th. Otherwise, Eid will fall on Friday, Aug. 9th.~Crescentwatch.org
