TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING - SOUTHEAST QUEENSLAND for DESTRUCTIVE WIND, HEAVY RAINFALL and LARGE HAILSTONES For people in the Brisbane and parts of the Somerset, Sunshine Coast, Brisbane and Moreton Bay Council Areas. Issued at 5:09 pm Thursday, 27 November 2014. The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 5:10 pm, very dangerous thunderstorms were detected on weather radar near Redcliffe and Brighton. Thunderstorms are moving towards the north. Very dangerous thunderstorms are forecast to affect Beachmere, Bribie Island and northern Bribie Island by 5:40 pm and Caloundra, the area southwest of Caloundra and waters off Caloundra by 6:10 pm. Other thunderstorms are forecast to affect Lake Somerset by 5:40 pm and Kilcoy and Mount Kilcoy by 6:10 pm. Destructive winds, heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding and large hailstones are likely. Very large hail (capable of smashing windows) and a 141 km/h wind gust has been recorded from the Brisbane area. Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should: * Move your car under cover or away from trees. * Secure loose outdoor items. * Avoid driving, walking or riding through flood waters. * Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees. * Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm. * Beware of fallen trees and powerlines. * For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500. The next warning is due to be issued by 6:10 pm. A more general severe thunderstorm warning is also current for parts of the Wide Bay and Burnett and Southeast Coast districts. Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureaus website at bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 219. The Bureau and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.
