Queensland Weather Coding System: for Thunderstorms: Our Coding System that we follow is unique, but we think it works especially when we have a day of Severe Weather on our hands. We havent explained this yet so here we go. 1 Thunderstorm heads up ) A thunderstorm heads up is usually issued when we think there is a high risk of Severe Thunderstorms in the South East, they are generally issued within 24hours prior to thunderstorm development. They include the Risks like Damaging winds and Heavy Rainfall and areas that are likely to be impacted. 2 Thunderstorm Watch ) A Thunderstorm Watch is a interaction that we expect Severe Thunderstorm within 3 -5 hours, we will include the Risks like Damaging Winds or Large Hail. And the Districts that could be affected like Brisbane or Moreton Bay council areas. This is a hint to move cars undercover and clear away lose outdoor items and ect. 3 Thunderstorm Advices ) This is an unofficial warning that a Cell has Developed in a area and its direction of movement , including locations that may be affected. We include the risks that may contain like Heavy Rainfall and Small Hail. 4 Severe Thunderstorm Warning ) This is a warning that we give out straight from the Bureau Of Meteorology We Do not import on these warnings. 5 Cancelation of Thunderstorm Advice or Severe Thunderstorm Warning ) This means thunderstorm are no longer posing a threat to the South East or have cleared off the coast. ( Please note Thunderstorms do not impact all locations they are generally localized depending on the scale of the cell ) say for an example North lakes, Redcliffe and Morayfield had the most epic storm of a life time. But poor old Caboolture and Beachmere sitting a few kilometres to the north only got a few drops of rain and a distant rumble )
