Quest Lecture - Virtual power, digital citizenship: Reflections on espionage, surveillance, privacy and politics in cyberspace. Whistler Public Library. Quest Lecture Series: Virtual power, digital citizenship: Reflections on espionage, surveillance, privacy and politics in cyberspace More and more parts of our lives play out in cyberspace, in ways both obvious and subtle. For the most part, we take this for granted - but should we? In cyberspace, the lines between espionage and war blur; Orwellian surveillance and revolutionary mobilization are equally possible, and data itself is a commodity. What does power look like in this strange landscape, and who wields it? This talk aims to cut through the techno-babble to explore the deeper question of how we exist in cyberspace: Are we merely subjects and consumers, or can we assert digital citizenship? Free admission. Seating is limited, so please come early. This event is co-sponsored by Quest University & the Whistler Public Library.
