Question: Can Squats Make My Butt Bigger? Squats can have two effects on the butt, depending on the shape you have to start with. If you are in the process of losing weight, ordinary squats are a great way to burn fat and tone up the muscles around the upper leg and butt area. This will give you a smaller, well-toned butt. If you are looking to build the glute muscles and give your butt a more rounded, fuller look there are some things you can do to help achieve this. The foods we eat play a big part in building muscle and protein is important, not only for building muscle mass but also for maintaining it. Adding foods such as eggs, wild salmon and brown rice to your diet can greatly enhance the results from your workout. You also need to make sure you are eating more food than you are burning off otherwise you will lose size, not gain it. While ordinary squats are great for toning, adding some weights to your squats helps you build muscle in your glutes. Holding dumbbells either down by your sides or above your shoulders is a good way to add some weight to your squats. Slowing down the speed of your squat works the muscle harder for a more intense workout. Add some lunges to your routine and you will be well on your way to having a butt to be proud of! Just remember: For a smaller butt: Ordinary squats, more repetitions. For a bigger butt: Add some weights, do them slowly with less repetitions.
