Question: Do we care who makes the things we like? Do we care who - TopicsExpress

Question: Do we care who makes the things we like? Do we care who they are as people? Theres a lot of pearl-clutching in the tech community about folks and their personal views on life: that CEO of Mozilla guy, the Snapchat guy, the dude who had the annotations company and said some weird shit about the Santa Barbara shooter... ... is it enough to make you stop using Snapchat? What about Mozilla Firefox? I wont bring up that annotation software (Rap sheet or something? I dont know... no one used that, Im pretty sure). I mean, if you philosophically disagree with the folks involved in a company, does it preclude you from using the tools they create? Broaden it up a bit. What about movies and music; if you arent a fan of spousal abuse, can you still enjoy the music of Elvis or the Beatles? If you dont agree with pedophilia, can you enjoy a Woody Allen flick or a Roman Polansky flick? I guess what Im asking, then, is how much of a place in tech journalism should the personal views of startup founders take? Does it matter, most of the time, or are we just talking about it because pageviews? Honest question. All viewpoints welcome.
