Question. Has anyone in the group ever been shot? Do you work with any officers who were shot? I was shot way back in 1991 when confronting a guy robbing a restaurant. The bullet went under my vest line and entered my abdomen. Currently in my unit,I work with 5 other officers who also were shot in the line of duty and there are at least a dozen officers who were shot still working in our department. I have always wondered if there are officers in other departments who were and went back to the JOB. If so, how did you handle it? I took a humorous approach. First I think it was better that it happened to me then someone else, who may not have been able to cope with it. My wife had a ring made up that looks like the bottom of the casing with the calibre stamped in it, and I have a personalized plate on my car that reads GOT SHOT (the state wouldnt approve SHOT COP, my first choice). Back when my shooting occurred there was no department policy that we had to go to counseling, so I had to deal with it my own way and I believe I handled it well.
