Yes, one is permitted to interview more than one potential spouse around the same period of time. The purpose is to weigh the options and select the best prospect. However, one should keep in mind, that if someone has made a proposal to a potential spouse and the potential spouse is inclined to accepting that proposal, it would now be impermissible to contact this person for a marriage proposal, unless the person declines the previous proposal. Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said, A man must not make proposal of marriage to a woman when his brother has done so already. And he must not offer a price for a thing for which his brother has already offered a price (Muslim) Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) has also stated A believer is the brother of a believer, so it is not lawful for a believer to outbid his brother, and he should not propose an engagement when his brother has thus proposed until he gives up. (Muslim) The Prophet Muhammad pbuh is reported to have said, Do not ask for a woman in marriage when another Muslim has already done so.(Muwattaa Imam Malik) Imam Malik (ra) said, The explanation of the statement of the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) is that Do not ask for a woman in marriage when another muslim has already done so means that when a man has asked for a woman in marriage, and she has inclined to him and they have agreed on a bride-price, which she has suggested and with which they are mutually satisfied, it is forbidden for another man to ask for that woman in marriage. It does not mean that when a man has asked for a woman in marriage, and his suit does not agree with her and she does not incline to him that no one else can ask for her in marriage.
