Question Of The Day Q. I have been having a hard time lately. I lost my job a while ago. After months of prayer I was finally blessed to find a new one, but I am still just barely making it financially. On top of that it seems like everything else around me is just falling apart, relationships, family, etc. I pray, I read the bible, I try to live my life in a way that is pleasing to the Lord, yet at every turn there is another disappointment. I know the Bible says that tribulations in life builds character, so do you think that this is Gods way of teaching me how to become a better Christian? A. The Bible says well have trouble in this world (John 16:33) and that we should rejoice when it happens because it helps us develop perseverance (James 1:2-3). But neither of these verses mean that God puts us through these things to make us better Christians. In His sight were already a new creation (2 Cor. 5:17) having been made perfect forever by the Lords once-for-all-time sacrifice (Hebrews 10:12-14). 1 John 5:19 says the whole world is under the control of the evil one. Jesus called him the prince of this world (John 14:30), and Paul said hes the god of this age ( 2 Cor. 4:4). Hes the one who has made this world an imperfect place. In addition to rejoicing when trouble happens to us, James 4:7-8 tells us to submit to God, draw near to Him, and resist the devil. Then he will flee from us. The best way to resist the devil is to focus on the good things in your life and keep praising God for them. Paul said, Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus (Phil. 4:4-7).
