The widow holds a very special place in Islam because if she is patient with her plight, then she will be in jannah with her husband bi ithnillah. She has a right to inheritance and a right to good treatment from the widower’s family. She also is to be supported by the Muslim community in every way including financially as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) associated sponsoring the widow with the same reward as sponsoring the orphan in some ahadeeth.
