Sally Chuck shared: Sarah Palin resigned because of the onslaught of frivolous ethics complaints that were filed against her. It IS quite notable that she resigned AFTER the charges were dismissed. Dealing with these complaints had cost the Alaska taxpayers almost $2M (by the time she left office). It was clearly a partisan witch hunt and she knew the cost to her constituents to deal with these hacks would only continue to mount. That, plus her office being brought almost to a halt because the charges against her (and her staff) were filed one right after another. Her office could not function properly anymore. Thats why she resigned. In contrast, we have many politicians who were charged with CRIMINAL offenses who hung on to their offices to prove their innocence but are now sitting in jail (for example, Jesse Jackson, Jr of IL for fraud, William Jefferson of LA, that guy with $90K hidden in his freezer, Bob McDonnell of VA for accepting illegal gifts, to name a few).
