Question came up from the discussion on stabilizing t-shirt - TopicsExpress

Question came up from the discussion on stabilizing t-shirt quilts. One of the long arm operators mentioned If you do not have the stabilizer holding the squares solid, a long arm machine will push the uncontrolled knit fabric all over the place and you will get all kinds of bulges and tucks in your squares. My question is, doesnt that presser foot from the long arm have a tension control so that you can set it a little higher up and it doesnt push the fabric as it is sewing? How do these machines handle bulky seams if they are pushing the fabric as they go? The entire idea behind a darning foot on a sewing machine is that it rides over the fabric freely. Also, this bulging and tuck action would be likely to happen on those infamous bias squares, correct?
