Question for dancers (not dancers who are also choreographers, - TopicsExpress

Question for dancers (not dancers who are also choreographers, directors, or have other stakes in the running of creating): Do you feel as though you should be as responsible for a dance production as the choreographer? More specifically, do you feel that you should be crossing over your dancer status in order to help with the production (i.e. helping setting up space, handing out postcards, sending emails, talking about the show, finding people for box office, placing listings in publications, designing things, be willing to not be paid if the show doesnt do well with ticket sales, or otherwise doing the part of a department (if there were one) of a larger scale dance company)? If you feel as though you should only be asked to dance and nothing else, please explain how this would benefit the production as a whole. Choreographers/directors: Do you feel that the dancers should be willing to participate more in the running of the shows? Why or why not. These questions are asked with the premise that Im talking about a small director/choreographer-run dance organization that has no other staff.
