Question for my construction friends.....Cathys lined up another easy project for me, and it looks like Ill be installing a pergola/shed-roof/shady area for our back deck. I know that I need to attach a ledger board to the side of my house above this window, and extend a mildly sloped roof to provide some shade from the summer heat. I know Im going to need a pressure treated 4x6 or 4x8 ledger which Ill attach with lag screws (Ive built a deck before, so this cant be much different). Heres the question - Do I need to find the studs of the wall? How am I going to find them. Tips and suggestions welcome.
