Question for the group - I ran my first marathon this past weekend. my goal was 4:05-4:10. Training had been going really well. I had logged 50+ mpw for the 6 weeks prior to the marathon with no issues. I had done 3 / 16 mile runs, one at 9:27 pace. I had run a number of long marathon pace runs at 9:15-9:20 with no issue. (I was on the Hansons plan). At the marathon, I was right on pace through mile 19. It was a little more of a struggle to hold the pace than I expected but I was ok. I drank water/Powerade every 2 miles. I ate GU every 4 miles. The weather was a perfect 52 degrees. The course was flat and fast. At mile 19, my energy started to wain. A couple of miles later, I was shot. My legs just wouldnt go. I ended up running the last 6 miles at 11:00+ mpm. I know I hit the wall. I just dont quite understand why. I thought I did everything to keep the wall from happening. Have you really tried to keep the wall from happening and boinked anyway? How did you change your training to keep that from happening again?
