Question from Robin: My 9-month-old cosleeping son has been waking - TopicsExpress

Question from Robin: My 9-month-old cosleeping son has been waking frequently and thrashing around like hes uncomfortable, but still seems to be at least half-asleep. He doesnt cry; just flops around until I nurse him. While nursing, though, he goes on and off for up to an hour, which keeps me from sleeping. Trying to substitute a binky doesnt work - he swats it away. We tried moving him to his own crib 6 weeks ago and it failed - he was crying more by the 8th night than on the 1st night. Any thoughts on how we can get this kiddo to sleep more restfully? Thanks! Answer: When he’s moving around and he’s not awake he is in a light sleep. If he’s in a light sleep don’t help him until you need to, when he’s awake. We spend quite a bit of our night in a light sleep, some people move around more than others and babies can move and fidget a LOT! When he has fully woken, I would sit up and feed him. You can keep rousing him as you need to to ensure he continues to feed well. If you want to get him in to the crib make sure he has plenty of playtime in there before you try and get him in for sleep. Compare his mattress to yours, if you need to make his more comfortable you can put something on top of his mattress and under the sheet.
