Question from Sylvain Brault: Dear Sir, What is the difference - TopicsExpress

Question from Sylvain Brault: Dear Sir, What is the difference between general consciousness and spiritual consciousness? What are signs to know that my consciousness is evolving and rising? Dear Sylvian, There is not really a "general consciousness" and "spiritual consciousness". Rather, consciousness takes on different qualities, just like water takes on different qualities and becomes ice, water and steam, when the amount of heat is decreased or increased. Consciousness, like the bright sun, is all there is. The "light" (joy, knowledge, love) in our life is due to the sun (consciousness, God, source) alone. The mind is like the blinds in the room that blocks the light from the sun to different extents. Consequently, my room (my life) is "dark" (i.e. I experience suffering) to varying levels. My "level of consciousness", then, is in direct correlation to the quality of my mind. The less I "block" truth with my mind, the more "light" I let in. When there is no mind (little to no ego), absolutely no light is blocked, and I experience truth the way it really as, which is called enlightenment - the prime goal of spiritual life. Overall, the rise in consciousness is accompanied by an increase in joy, love and insight. There is an increasing sense of detachment from the ups and downs of life, an increasing sense of connectivity with all of life, and a sense of increasing assurance that life is okay and that there is nothing to fear. The "somebody" that was experiencing turbulence in life gradually becomes a "nobody". That is, there is no one in here to get hurt, to suffer, to resist the world. The nobody finally becomes an "everybody" as he has lets go of personal identification with mind and body. With Love, Sudhir
