Question from one of our readers: I am a dental hygienist in Canada and I am curious about whether American dental hygienists subscribe to selective or full polishing. Dental hygiene educators here teach selective polishing, but most patients want a full polish. I explain that polishing actually removes 4 micrometers of enamel, and must be selective (which also leads me to believe this is why some teeth appear yellow with age). Do you use selective or full polishing and what products do you prefer? Please leave your feedback/suggestions below.
