Question from one of our readers: I have a 28-year-old patient who hasnt been to a dentist for 12 years. Patient presented with slight supra calculus with some moderate supra calculus in the mandible anterior lingual area. Probing depths were generalized at 3 mm to 4 mm inter proximally with only 2 mm to 5 mm readings on the DL and ML #30 and slight bleeding on probing. My dentist says scaling and root planing are indicated, but are general pocket depths of 4 mm enough to really consider scaling and root planing for insurance purposes? I feel that scaling and root planing may be a stretch, but treatment should still be more than just a standard cleaning. Thoughts or suggestions? Please leave your feedback/suggestions below.
