Question of the Day - Muslim Brotherhood Clamp Down An Egyptian court has imposed death sentences on the leader of the Muslim Brotherhood, Mohammed Bardie, along with 600 supporters. 37 others will also suffer the same fate. They were charged in connection with last Augusts violent riots in the central Egyptian city of Minya. The deadly crackdown led to the killing by security forces of a police officer during sit-ins held in Cairo by supporters of former Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi. The death sentences are not final. U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moons spokesperson says he is -- quote alarmed by the news of the mass death sentence. He said Verdicts that clearly appear not to meet basic fair trial standards, particularly those which impose the death penalty, are likely to undermine prospects for long-term stability, which is essentialfor the overall stability of the entire North African and Middle East region. Ban says he intends to discuss these concerns and other issues later this week with the Egyptian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Nabil Fahmy. So, we ask the question of the day today as follows: Would this mass judgment and clamp down on the Muslim Brotherhood exacerbate the problem in Egypt?
