Question posed to me today on my fb wall - I am just wondering how much our country will have to spend to keep people on welfare, public aid, etc... We are broke and I dont know if we know how to fix it. I would love to hear your take, coming from a public official like yourself. I dont profess to know the answers, but am very concerned. People work too hard for some to take advantage of the system. I am not only speaking of immigrants, but even citizens. People need to get off the system and work. ========================================================= Please, have I not made myself clear on where I stand? -- My response -- How much will this country continue to spend on corporate welfare tax breaks that benefit the top 2%? The money spent on the poor pales in comparison. We are broke as you say it, by choice thanks to Bush/Cheney and their lies about Iraq. Its interesting to me how folks like yourself are very concerned about people taking advantage of the system but never pay attention to the built in systems of white collar welfare that systematically privilege and reward Wall Street and owners of rich corporations. And please, please do show me where the family sustaining jobs with health benefits are. The GOP and the rich in this country are coming for every single worker in this country, including you and me, who make $50,000 with health benefits to turn all of us into temporary, non-career track workers who earn poverty wages. And really, Im surprised you would post something that suggests that people prefer to be unemployed, hiding in the shadows without papers, fearing ICE deportation. All most people want is a shot. I refuse to play along with the assertion that we should craft policy based off of the 10% of folks gaming the system, rather than the 90% who want a chance.
