Basic Questions to Ask How many tractors do you have? How many trailers do you have? How old is your fleet? Where do you run…National, National plus Canada, Regional, Dedicated, Local? What kinds of trailers do you pull? Flatbed, Tanker, Van, Reefer Do you require any endorsements? Hazmat, Doubles/Triples, Tanker, TWIC? Ask About Training for Newly Licensed Drivers How long is your orientation and where is it? How long is your training? How long is it and what kind of training? Do you have a busier season? Do you have paper logs or eLogs? What time of day do you dispatch? Phrase it as “After a year with you, what should my weekly paychecks look like?” Make it clear as to whether that is Gross Pay, or Net – which is what you take home. Ask about health benefits, too. If the pay is a little lower but the company picks up the cost of benefits for you AND your family…that can be a very good deal. Whether you are attending a Career Day event with many companies, or going in person to apply to companies, ask Questions! This is a great opportunity to learn about a business. Ask them about what they are doing and what their needs are so you can learn if this is a good match for your needs and you can have a good Career with the company.
