Questions for Thomas Frieden, Director (for the moment) of the CDC: 1. Why would a 30 day quarantine on flights FROM ebola hot spots, prevent aid flights TO those same countries? 2. Why would a commercial travel ban prevent aid flights by military and private charter? If America can send 3,000 soldiers to west Africa on military flights, can we not also send 3,000 doctors? Or 3,000 crates of medical supplies? 3. Why would we trust screening protocols for open travel from these countries based on “self reporting” by people exposed to ebola? (And if their best hope for survival is to lie on the questionnaire, board the plane and get treatment in America… is our policy to assume honesty?) 4. If the argument against a commercial travel ban from ebola hot spots is that the infected would take connecting flights to sidestep the ban… why is it safer to allow them a direct flight? (We could extend the ban to any nations receiving flights from the same dangerous nations… Just a thought.) 5. If the argument against a travel ban is based on the premise that it can’t guarantee containment success, do you leave the front door open when you leave your house, or do you lock it even though there’s no guarantee against burglary? 6. Why is the “containment protocol” so loose that a nurse treating a known ebola patient was allowed to fly between Cleveland and Dallas… before testing positive for the disease, herself? (By the way, this is how a horror movie usually starts.) 7. Do you have Perry Mason on DVD? (It could come in handy in the near future.)
