Questions from Joanna Lo: > Hi Karen I am quite confused about the way we use rather than. For example, ....,the elevator stops at all the floors *rather than* stops at every floor.. Do we have to put stops here? Isnt it supposed to put VR / Ving/ N/ after rahter than? I think there is something wrong with the original sentence, since both parts of it mean the same thing. However, this sentence should read something like: This elevator stops only at odd-numbered floors *rather than stopping* at every floor. But both forms are possible in some sentences, e.g. Id like to *have* something now *rather than eat* later. > (a) We walked home rather than take/taking a taxi. Both are correct here. > (B) I like to drink coffe*e* rather than tea in the morning. Are these all correct sentences? Both versions of (A) and (B) are fine. > Thanks for your help again. Joanna Lo Youre welcome and have a great day!
